Kali, an 850-pound polar bear currently at the Buffalo Zoo in Buffalo, New York, will soon be a resident of St. Louis.
The St. Louis Zoo is busy building the McDonnell Polar Bear Point to house the animal. The habitat has floor-to-ceiling windows so people can watch the bears swimming, and there are rocky outcrops for the bears to sun themselves.
The new enclosure enables visitors to get a much better look at the bears, and at the same time, is more enclosed, so it will not be as easy for trash items like plastic Bags to get into the exhibit, where they can threaten animals’ lives.
While the Buffalo Zoo is prepared for the transfer, not everyone in New York is happy about the idea. One U.S. senator tried to convince the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service—which has the ultimate say-so over the transfer of the bear—to leave Kali in Buffalo. Another fan created a campaign online to keep the bear in its current city.
Buffalo Zoo’s president and CEO, Donna Fernandes, says she always knew Kali’s stay with them would be temporary, but is glad to have cared for him in his formative years.
St. Louis Zoo officials could work with a banner printing company on a piece to herald Kali’s arrival at the facility.Get a Free Quote for Bags
