Popular local venue to change owners

This week will mark the “last call” for patrons of the popular Thurman Grill & Provisions, a neighborhood restaurant and bar known for its patio and live music. According to The Riverfront Times, Larry Weinles has owned and operated the place for ten years, and said he's ready to “ride off into the sunset,” adding he's been working since he was 11, and he's now 64.

Weinles has a fascinating history; he's worked with two famous rockers - as a sound man for the Grateful Dead, and as Alice Cooper's stage manager. He may go back on the road, he says, or maybe just get some sleep.

Weinles said his tenure at Thurman was interesting - he's made friends, watched people get together, shared the celebration of birth, had fun with weddings, and mourned the death of friends. He also said he's seen the neighborhood improve until now it is one of the most desirable places to live in St. Louis.

Though the closure on 30th June will no doubt be a sad occasion for many, there's a silver lining to Weinles' decision: a new owner is taking over Thurman Grill, and will reopen early in August. Doug Fowler plans to renovate the interior and introduce a new menu, but he is keeping the live music tradition going. Along those lines, the Jazz Troubadours will play at the restaurant's last wine dinner, scheduled for June 28.
