New restaurant serves burgers on Cherokee Street

One of the tiniest spaces in the city of St. Louis is now home to a new restaurant, Burger 809.

The spot, which is at 2619 ½ Cherokee Street, was first the home of the Little Dipper, then it became Teatopia, and more recently, Parm Pasta & Sandwich Co., before Burger 809 took over. The restaurant recently had a soft opening, followed by its grand opening.

The owner of the postage-stamp-sized place is Tasha Smith, who also has a catering business with the same name. She has run her catering company for about four years, but this is the first time she's ventured into the brick-and-mortar world. Smith says she was drawn to the premises immediately.

Smith has been cooking for her whole life and has always loved food. She began her career by creating tasty meals for family events, which were so well received she decided to start catering. Everything took off from that point. Companies like this can start off by distributing Promotional Products to help build the brand.

Burger 890 has a signature burger that is the size of a slider, but topped with mozzarella and Monterey Jack cheeses, as well as jalapeno bacon jam, which is homemade. She keeps the burgers small to help control portion size. At present, the burger is part of a limited menu that also includes a house salad, a vegan grilled cheese, baked mac and cheese, Southern greens, and a “Southside Salmon Slider.”
