A new program recently came online to help low-income women in St. Louis, and the rest of the state as well, have babies who are born in a healthy and happy state.
The Show-Me Healthy Babies initiative became effective as of January 1. It provides free access to services related to pregnancy for women who have an income that is up to as much as 300% of the poverty level set by the federal government.
The types of care provided include those that help them to have a healthier pregnancy, labor, and delivery, and also cover care for the post postpartum period for 60 days after their baby is born.
Coverage for the babies will be available for up to a year after their birth. A variety of ad specialties can be produced by a printing company to help let women who may benefit from the program become more aware about it, and also give them the information about how they can apply should they qualify to do so.
The plan was originally developed by the state in 2014, and its plan to implement it recently received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Women could start applying for the program as of January 1 of this year, and they can do so online at Mydss.mo.gov/ or through calling 1-855-373-9994 and asking to speak with the Family Support Division Resource Center.
