Delmar Loop to get unusual new ice cream shop

A new style of ice cream that has probably not been seen in the Midwest, let alone St. Louis, should be available at a shop in the Delmar Loop soon.

The Snow Factory, which is taking over the spot previously housing Cheeseology, specializes in pan-fried ice cream rolls, a treat that comes from Thailand.

To make the ice cream rolls, the base is poured onto a hibachi table, which has a temperature of minus 10 degrees. Fruit and similar ingredients are added, and then the mixture is stirred and chopped until it crystallizes. It is spread into a thin layer, which is than scraped off the table so that it Forms rolls. In Chinatown in New York City, a shop known as 10Below Ice Cream has customers clamoring for the treats.

The shop is the idea of Van Liu, who is now a senior at University of Missouri-St. Louis. Liu’s father is Chinese and his mother is Taiwanese, and he traveled to Asia frequently, where he fell in love with the ice cream found there, and decided to bring the concept to St. Louis.

He plans to have more than 13 flavors available, including green tea, mango, and Thai tea, along with some additional items. Snow Factory should be open sometime in September, 2016.

Newly established businesses often work with flyer printing companies, which can create handouts to distribute when new stores open.
