Construction begins at Lambert International

Traffic is often congested at St. Louis's Lambert International Terminal 2, but now work has started to solve this problem.

Construction was begun recently on one of several projects aimed at improving the flow of vehicular traffic around Terminal 2, and reducing congestion in the area. The project will create double-left turn lanes.

A wide median strip lined with trees runs along Lambert International Boulevard, between the garage exit from Terminal 2, and the entrance to the terminal. The plan is to decrease the size of the median, a project which will require the establishment of a temporary construction area. In this zone, which will be just south of the garage of Terminal 2, there will be room for only one lane of traffic going each way. Poster printing can be used to create signage for projects like this.

More than 130 feet of the center median will be reduced to allow the double-left turns lanes to be built. They will handle traffic eastbound into the terminal. An additional 14 cars can be accommodated by the new lanes, which will reduce traffic backups during peak travel hours, including vehicles going toward I-70 eastbound.

In addition to extending and creating the left-turn lanes, the airport is looking at the suggestions made during a recent study of traffic improvement, including improving traffic enhancement, passenger pickup spaces, and parking. These projects could be undertaken in phases, beginning next year.
