The erstwhile Bevo Mill, built by brewer August Busch, Sr., 101 years ago, will reopen soon as Das Bevo as a brunch spot, biergarten, and entertainment venue.
The city of St. Louis, Missouri, has owned the property since 2008, when they leased it to a caterer. When the catering operation closed, the city asked for proposals, and selected the one put forward by Carol and Pat Schuchard.
The couple revealed that modifications made to the structure over the years have cluttered it, and they spent a lot of time removing old carpeting and tearing out partitions, restoring the building to its original condition. The mill boasts tile floors, a beamed ceiling, graceful archways, massive fireplaces, chandeliers, and decorative wall tiles, some apparently hand-painted.
Das Bevo will live up to its German heritage. The Schuchards plan to make space available for special events, but unlike similar entertainment venues, Das Bevo will have a full-service restaurant open seven days per week. Although Pat Schuchard refers to it as a biergarten, the 2,000 square-foot space will be open all year, and have a full menu, including weekend brunches. An additional outdoor area will be open during good weather, nearly doubling their space. They hope to open sometime this spring.
Projects like this can benefit if developers contact experts in marketing services to help spread the word about a new establishment opening.
