An agricultural technology enterprise has chosen to relocate its headquarters to St. Louis, creating jobs and other economic benefits in the process.
Edison Agrosciences will be moving its head offices into the city from its current location in North Carolina. It estimates that in doing so, at least six new jobs will be created for people from the local area.
When companies such as this come into the area, they also produce spin-off benefits for other enterprises that can provide them with products and services, such as printing companies. It will also demonstrate that St. Louis has the infrastructure, knowledge base, and other support needed to drive innovation and entrepreneurship in high-tech and other scientific fields.
The company is currently undergoing research into using sunflower oil and other ingredients to produce natural rubber at a level that makes it commercially viable, providing a domestic source for the product and lessening the country’s dependence on offshore producers.
The CEO of Edison Agrosciences, Tom Christensen, explained that the move will allow the company to benefit from the positive environment for bioscience and agri-tech that exists in the state. To help encourage further expansion in this sector, MTC has announced that it will invest $75,000 in the enterprise to help it fund its proof of concept and also to pay for further research and development into its final product.
