Jean-Yves Thibaudet has built a career that stretches back 30 years. He has performed at venues around the world, and made over 50 albums. His repertoire includes orchestral pieces, as well as works for solo piano, and chamber orchestra. He plays works by a wide range of composers, from the classics of Beethoven, Khachaturian, and Saint-Saëns, to 20th century pieces from artists like George Gershwin, to contemporary composers such as James MacMillan. Thibaudet has always enjoyed music that goes beyond a pianist's standard repertoire, and has transposed opera for the piano.
A review of one of Thibaudet's performances calls it “compelling,” and that as he played:
“there was no mistaking the sensitivity of his reading, nor his understanding of the score’s blues-based melancholy.”
The concert will feature Thibaudet and members of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. The program will comprise the “Sonata for Flute and Piano” by Francis Poulenc, with Mark Sparks playing the flute; and Poulenc's “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano,” with clarinetist Scott Andrews. The third work is the Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 67, by Dimitri Shostakovich, in which violinist Celesete Goden Boyer and cellist Bjorn Ranheim will join Thibaudet.
