Theatergoers may find themselves Disenchanted! soon
Playwright Dennis T. Giacino does not think the heroines of yesterday would be happy with the way fairytales portray them today, and his raucous musical ‘Disenchanted!’ gives the ladies the chance to set the record straight. St. Louis-area residents can hear their stories soon, according to an article in Broadway World.
‘Disenchanted!’ began to make its mark in 2011, when it won the “Best of Fest” Award from the Orlando Sentinel for its run at the Orlando International Fringe Festival. From there, it has played across the nation, meeting with widespread praise from critics.
The show, which is not suitable for children, features six women who take aim at the way women are portrayed in fairy tales, and in particular the way in which Disney has taken notable women and turned them into pop culture icons.
The play will be performed at the Playhouse @ Westport Plaza in Maryland Heights, about 18 miles from St. Louis. The theater gives area residents a chance to see Broadway and off-Broadway shows that might not otherwise come to the area.
The show runs at 8:00 pm on February 28, and March 1, 2, and 3. On March 4, a Saturday, there is a 4:00 pm matinee and an evening performance at 8:00 pm, and on Sunday, March 5, the matinee is at 2:00 pm and the evening curtain goes up at 6:00 pm.
Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a poster printing company to create a memorable placard for the show.
