Commodities trader Bunge relocating headquarters to St. Louis
Bunge, a major agricultural concern, is moving its global headquarters from New York to St. Louis, according to an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Bunge is one of the “ABCD quartet” of grain traders—the others are Louis Dreyfus Co., Cargill, and Archer Daniels Midland. These four, and other, smaller corporations, buy and sell agricultural commodities.
Bunge isn't new to St. Louis, but is already established in the area. Since 1990, the company has had its North American headquarters in the region, in Westport Plaza in Maryland Heights first, and since 2017, in Chesterfield. The positions shifting west will go to facility in Chesterfield, according to Bunge representatives. The building can accommodate 750 people, but the current workforce is approximately 525. That means about 200 new jobs will be created with the move.
Bunge spokesperson Deb Seidel said the company
She added that the company received some tax incentives to build the facility in Chesterfield, but none were involved in the decision to move Bunge's global headquarters to St. Louis. She said the company thinks it's sensible to move to a region where it already has operations, and where there is a concentration of agricultural distribution and production. In addition, the company uses the Mississippi River as well as its tributaries for their exports. Brochure printing can be used by companies like this to discuss their operations.
