This year is the bicentennial of Thornhill and to celebrate, it will have four events on offer in August and September.
For next Sunday, August 8, there will be a Statehood Celebration and Ice Cream Social starting at 11:00 am. Thornhill, the home of Frederick Bates, the second governor of Missouri, will hold an open house. Docents will be in period dress and the event will also include games.
On August 21 and 22, from noon until 4:00 pm, a Thornhill Open House will have a more comprehensive tour of Governor Bates’ mansion and will have docents explaining life on the frontier. This tour will include the family cemetery.
Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29 will see Faust Historic Village Open House offer free tours of the Village historic homes. This will be a glimpse into St. Louis County life from 1850 to 1900.
Finally, hosted by Faust Park and St. Louis County Historic Places & Spaces, Thornhill will be holding its Folklife Festival on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26, from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.
Harvest time activities will include events and period crafts that preceded Missouri statehood. Chesterfield guests can witness a militia muster and learn about events and people in early Missouri history.
Event venues like these tend to have pictures taken during these occasions. The photos are often taken to Print shops and used in visitor guide brochure printing.
