Offering a unique way to introduce Chesterfield children to ballet and the musical classic ‘Carnival of the Animals’, the Alexandria Ballet will be presenting ‘Origami – a Young Peoples’ Performance’ later this month.
This event will not only present the art of dance and the music of Camille Saint-Saens, the French Romantic composer, but will also display colorful dancers that have been made from paper folded in the ancient Japanese art of origami.
The music for the performance will be from a suite containing 14 movements that musically describe different animals, such as the swan, lion, elephant, kangaroos, aquatic animals, and birds. The ballet was originally choreographed and designed by the late Kevin Milam, and is being restaged by Norma Gabriel.
Although the performance will be free to the public, reservations are required and can be obtained by calling the venue’s box office.
Those who wish to support the arts, especially those programs designed for children, may want to have flyer printing carried out in order to have material to distribute to other parents and friends. They may also want to have the information sent to their social organizations before their next newsletter printing.
The event is scheduled for February 19, starting at 10:00 am at the William D. Purser DC Center at Logan College, 1851 Schoettler Road in Chesterfield. Patrons and their children may want to arrive early to get good seats.
