Winter Opera Saint Louis will soon be presenting Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” as its first opera of 2016.
The two performances will be presented in Italian with English supertitles. Gina Galati, the General Director, promises that this version of Mozart’s classic opera buffa will appeal to all ages.
“That’s the way women are” or “cosi fan tutte” is the theme of this musical farce. The plot involves a bet between two military officers and an old philosopher that their fiancées will remain loyal forever. To prove their ladies’ love, they leave town on a military matter only to return disguised, each determined to win the other officer’s lady’s affections.
In this, the Winter Opera’s ninth season, ‘Cosi fan tutte’ follows the successful Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Yeomen of the Guard’, which was presented back in October. To end the season, the company will be bringing Verdi’s ‘Il Trovatore’ to the stage early in March. This will be the final Verdi opera of the trilogy that the company has produced over the last three years.
