Chesterfield locals will have an opportunity to learn how to prepare in advance for natural disasters later this month, courtesy of the local library.
The program, titled ‘Disaster Preparedness’, will offer a briefing on what to do should a disaster strike the area. Experts with the local chapter of the Older Resident Programs will be giving the lecture. Included will be a discussion of the Access & Functional Needs Registry, which is a government program with an associated database that allows citizens to call in before an emergency or disaster strikes. Its purpose is to provide pertinent details, such as special needs if a person is disabled, and how many people live in a home.
Other topics that will be discussed will include setting up a common meeting place in the event that homes are damaged, creating emergency kits for home use, and making citizens familiar with disaster services and shelter locations should a situation arise.
Those that wish to attend should consider any questions they have ahead of time, and organizers may want to help get the word out via flyer printing, perhaps contacting those who engage in newsletter printing.
The Disaster Preparedness seminar will be given October 26, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, at the Samuel C. Sachs Branch Library, 16400 Burkhardt Pl, Chesterfield. There is no cost to attend.
