Many June events are still being planned at Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House in Missouri Botanical Gardens, just a 20-minute journey from Chesterfield.
The month will begin with “Little Bugs; Magnificent Millipedes” in the Lopata Learning Lab June 1 from 11:00 am until noon. This will be a toddler-oriented experience where little ones between the ages of 2 and 4 will explore invertebrates.
Tree identification, taught by Curtis Parsons, will be June 6 from 8:30 am until 10:30 am. Mr. Parsons will discuss common trees in Missouri and end the program with a half-mile walk through Faust Park and the Native Garden. The ‘Plant Milkweed for Monarchs’ has been moved to June 6 and will take place from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm in the lab. Guests will learn why milkweed is the only Monarch butterfly’s food source, and how to grow it. The Monarch’s lifecycle, migration patterns and other interesting Monarch facts will be discussed along with other insects that feed on the milkweed plant.
Cockroaches on the 8th, caterpillars on the 13th, painting pollinators on the 14th and a Firefly Festival on the 19th are all still on the June schedule. “Dads, dogs and donuts” will take place on the 20th at 9:00 am and again at 1:00 pm, and Fireflies after Dark on the 26th from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm will round out the Butterfly House June calendar.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
