Plymouth volunteers to leap into amphibian survey

A Plymouth area environmental advocacy and stewardship group recently put out a call seeking volunteers for an initiative that helps frogs and toads, and it will be offering a training program for those interested.

The Friends of the Rouge are dedicated to cleaning up the river and protecting the plants and animals that call it home, and one of its projects is focused on amphibians. The volunteers will be trained in biological survey methods and other techniques, and the session will be offered at the Livonia Civic Center Library.

This learning opportunity, which takes place each spring, is for anyone who can commit to conducting a wetland survey twice each month. Those surveys will be performed at night when the frogs and toads are calling, and these calls will be used to determine which species are present. A set of materials will be supplied to each participant.

People often appreciate the chance to engage in some hands-on environmental advocacy. Learning materials for a training session can be prepared by Stationery printers, and they can package the completed projects to make them ready to distribute during an event.

The Friends of the Rouge will be running its 2024 Rouge Frog and Toad Survey Training on Saturday, March 2. Everyone who Signs up is asked to arrive by no later than 10:00 am.
