A Plymouth area activity will provide data that may be used in the conservation of frogs and toads.
Friends of the Rouge will be hosting an event at the Livonia Civic Center Library that will discuss its Frog and Toad Survey for 2026. It will run for two hours, and once they have completed this training, volunteers for the project will be ready for the task at hand.
Volunteers will learn how to identify seven different species of frogs and one toad, all of them native to the Rogue watershed home, simply by their mating calls. Each of the surveyors will select a quarter of a square mile to cover, and on warm spring nights, they will head out to their area and listen out for the singing. They are asked to do this at least twice each month from March until July. While the training is geared towards new volunteers, those who have previously taken part are welcome to attend as well.
Activities that allow the public to become citizen scientists may attract a lot of attention. Species record sheets, promotional Pens, and other materials for recordkeeping can be prepared by local Stationery printers.
The training chance to be part of an activity that will lend local frogs and toads a helping hand scheduled for Saturday, February 21 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. Anyone interested is invited to register now.
