A workshop series for newbie gardeners will be on offer this spring in the Plymouth area, and it will give them the knowledge and skills they need to achieve success.
The session, which will be held on the first Saturdays in spring, will introduce the basics of seed starting. Those interested will be invited to keep on learning by participating in its fall schedule, which will explore how to put a garden “to bed” for the winter.
The two-hour session will cover topics related to growing food plants in the home garden. Everyone who registers will receive the seeds, trays, growing medium, and other materials they may need, and both permaculture design tips and ongoing support will be provided. Compost, watering, and mulching will be discussed, and additional assistance will be offered as well.
Many people are interested in growing at least some of their own food, so a workshop like this may help them to get started, and handouts for a session will be available at a local flyer printing company.
This instruction to the art and science of growing food in the home garden is set to open with a session on Saturday, March 4. It will be held at Dawn Farm located at 6633 Stony Creek Road in Ypsilanti, and will run from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
