Lansing is getting a new park, and even though it has still to be finished, it has an official name.
An Executive Order issued by Lansing Mayor Andy Schor recently gave the name ‘Beacon Park’ to the new space, which features the recently finished Beacon Soccer Field. A walking trail and playground are still to be completed.
Beacon Park, which is sited behind the South Side Community Coalition, has shaded seating in addition to a KaBOOM! Playground, and the forthcoming trail. In order to get the park ready, the South Side Community Coalition will work with the Lansing Parks and Recreation Department to organize Community Build Days.
Brett Kaschinske, the director of Lansing's Parks and Recreation, said they were excited about adding a new park to the city, and added they have enjoyed working with the various organizations that came together to make the effort possible. He called the Beacon Park project a great example of the way in which public/private partnerships can join together to increase residents' ability to access green spaces and healthy activities.
The first Beacon Field, which is located in north Lansing, was finished in 2015, and received the Michigan Recreation and Park Association's Design Award for Outstanding Facility. That park proved so successful the southwest Beacon Soccer Field was built. Poster printing can be used to provide signage for projects like this.
