Local community center to hold mini Nutcracker show

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center will host an abbreviated version of the Nutcracker ballet next month, called the Nutcracker in a Nutshell in a Mask.

Differing from past Nutcracker shows, this year’s will be a condensed version of the original Tchaikovsky work, preserving only special scenes integral to the ballet’s plot, such as those with Clara and Fritz. Choreographer Mary Jane Heppner-Gamble made this decision as the ballet will only be danced by children in the age group of 6 to 12 to protect the safety of the younger children due to the pandemic. As such, some scenes, such as the Battle Scene and Mother Ginger, had to be eliminated. All children in the designated age group of 6 to 12 are encouraged to register, with no dance experience necessary.

Organizers of community productions often use local flyer printing services to create informative Flyers to advertise to potential participants.

Rehearsals for Group A will take place from December 6 to December 9, and those for Group B will be from December 13 to December 16. Group A’s performance night will be December 11, and Group B’s will be December 18. The East Lansing Hannah Community Center is located at 819 Abbot Road, East Lansing. Dancer Registration is $125, but attendance at the show night is free to the families and the public.
