Next month, Lansing Makers Network will hold the Introduction to Jewelry: Silver Ring workshop to teach beginners the fundamentals of jewelry making.
Lansing Makers Network is a non-profit organization made up of a diverse range of creative individuals working together in a unique maker/hackerspace. This creative space welcomes individuals of all skill levels and walks of life to come together to learn, connect, make art, and develop innovative technologies. The organization often hosts how-to workshops like this one.
The three-hour event will delve into the basics of fine jewelry making. Students will learn how to make a sterling silver textured ring by discovering how to cut and shape silver into a ring form, how to use stamping tools to texture and engrave metal, how to square joints for soldering and how to solder them, how to properly polish silver, and how to apply a patina. The class is designed for beginners, and the age limit is 16 years old and up.
Such workshops often include detailed Brochures relating to the topic students are learning. Organizers can get these printed in bulk for their event at local Print shops specializing in brochure printing.
The silver ring class is scheduled for February 18 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Lansing Makers Network is located at 2730 Alpha Access Road. Tickets start at $110.
