Jackson Teen Zone now open

The Boys & Girls Club of Lansing is now the site of the Jackson Teen Zone, a space for teens to get ready for college.

The Jackson National Life Insurance Company gave $683,000 to fund the project, which expanded the club by 4,689 square feet. The club is located on Pleasant Grove Road.

The new space comprises a teen welcome space, conference room, storage area, and up-to-date Teen Center. Outside, a new patio with 1,080 square feet of space was built. Adding the new teen facility means the club can repurpose its former teen rooms into spaces to be used for tutoring and education.

Boys & Girls Club of Lansing’s president Carmen Turner said the new zone fulfills its promise, giving a customized, enhanced environment in which teens can thrive and learn. Turner says the center will help the young people learn what their talents are, and discover their identities as individuals, which will enhance their experience when they go on to college. Among other programs, the teens can take programs in financial literacy, or use a 3-D printer located in the maker space.

The new space is aimed particularly at about 1,500 teens who are considered ‘at risk’. Tutors and educational programs will help them get ready for college.

Organizations like these could benefit by working with flyer printing companies, which can create informational materials for Mailing or distribution, to ensure people know about these programs.
