Superstar vocalist to come to Bethesda
The legendary Paul Anka is both a singer and songwriter, though people might not know how many other artists’ hits were initially his work.
Anka began his career when he was 14, when he recorded “I Confess.” He went on to audition for ABC Records with his song “Diana,” which was his first major hit, climbing to the No. 1 spot on both US and Canadian charts. He added to his initial success with four more hits that charted in the Top 20.
Anka’s songwriting credits include “Teddy,” which he wrote for Connie Francis, as well as the English lyrics to “My Way,” which became Frank Sinatra’s signature song. He also wrote music for films, including the theme song for “The Longest Day,” which became the Canadian Airborne Regiment’s official march. He composed “Lonely Boy,” one of his biggest successes, during this period.
He has never stopped working, and continues to perform worldwide. A review said:
“He [Anka] just keeps getting better with age. It's amazing how much energy he has, and how he has maintained his beautiful and powerful voice.”
Paul Anka will perform at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda on June 21. The show is scheduled for 8:00 pm, and tickets are going quickly. When events like this are planned, promoters can use brochure printers to create informative programs.
