School unveils plans for new campus

Rochambeau, a Bethesda-based French international school, recently revealed its plans for an elementary school campus it would like to build on Old Georgetown Road.

The school currently has approximately 1,080 students ranging from preschool to twelfth grade, but they are split among three campuses in Chevy Chase and Bethesda.

In the past several months, Rochambeau has been looking at parcels of land it could put together so it could build a new school. The building would hold as many as 550 students from grades kindergarten through fifth. They could be consolidated instead of being spread across various locations, as they are now.

A community meeting was held recently so the school could present their plans and listen to residents' input, and several dozen residents attended. They had some concerns, but also appreciated other parts of the plan.

One resident, Jessica Todd, expressed concern that heating and cooling the building could create a lot of noise, and the students and staff coming and going might disrupt the neighborhood. However, she liked the school's proposed policy of using school buses to bring children to school rather than allowing parents to drop them off, as this could help alleviate potential problems with traffic near the facility.

She added that she believes Rochambeau would like to be a considerate neighbor.

Facilities like this can benefit if officials work with a newsletter printing company to create a letter for residents of the area.
