Plans underway to create senior retirement community in Bethesda
Erickson Living, a national leader in developing and managing retirement communities for seniors, recently announced its plans to transform the former headquarters of Marriott International Inc., located in Bethesda, into a senior living facility.
Marriott is remaining in Bethesda, but relocating to a new downtown location in 2022, when its lease expires.
The headquarters offers 775,000 square feet, which Erickson says it will redevelop into a huge community for seniors. Erickson, which is based in Catonsville, purchased the Marriott property late in 2018, but has not revealed details of the transaction. Projects like this can benefit if developers work with a brochure printing company to create booklets, complete with illustrations, that describe the center's amenities to potential residents.
Erickson Living describes the location as a ‘thriving urban center’, which makes it ideal for their purposes, and allows them to expand their services in both Montgomery County, and statewide as well. Alan Butler, Erickson's CEO, said the company is trusted to provide excellent healthcare and housing to seniors, and was embracing
“…the opportunity to serve communities by meeting the growing demand for senior housing.”
Erickson is one of the largest providers of senior living facilities in the country, and has over 20 developments located in 11 states. The Marriott project in Bethesda is the second Erickson project in Montgomery County; the first is in Silver Spring.
