The fast-casual Korean restaurant chain Bibibop, based in the Midwest, is expanding rapidly, and will open seven new spots throughout the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia before summer's end.
One of the locations is in North Bethesda at Pike & Rose; it opened May 22, 2017, with free meals for its first customers. The Bethesda store is one of four opening within a two-week period.
Bibibop was founded in 2013 in Ohio. When Chipotle closed its ShopHouse Asian Kitchen locations in March, 2017, Bibibop bought them, more than doubling the number of locations it owns. It also intends to expand operations in Cleveland, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
Bibibop's director of marketing, Andrew Shin, said the Maryland/Washington area had the demographics the chains look for when it decides to expand. Each store features custom meals of noodles, rice, proteins, and house-made signature sauces.
The Pike & Rose store was the first to open in Bethesda; a second opened two days later in Bethesda Row on Bethesda Avenue. Another shop was set to open May 31 in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C., and June 1 saw another on Connecticut Avenue. Later in the summer, shops will open in Maryland's Columbia Mall, Silver Spring, and Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown.
Efforts like this can be aided if officers work with a postcard printing company to create a card for a targeted Mailing in the area, announcing the openings.
