What's Happening in Bethesda, MD…

Grammy winner coming to Bethesda

The winner of three Grammys is on his way to Bethesda for an evening of music.

Pianist, songwriter, and singer Bruce Hornsby has released a list of solo tour dates, even though he will continuing touring with his band, the Noisemakers, as well. One of those solo appearances will be in Bethesda, and the solo engagements are in support of “Absolute Zero,” his most recent album. This album follows “Rehab Reunion,” which he released in 2016.

His agent, along with yMusic, has urged him to play the new tour dates with a backing chamber music ensemble, to which he agreed. The yMusic instrumentalists will be playing the trumpet, flute, clarinet, cello, viola, and violin.

Hornsby and his first band, The Range, released three albums, which sold about eight million copies, after which he went on to work with the Grateful Dead and with film director Spike Lee. Hornsby is constantly moving into new genres and creating new sounds, making his appearances always fresh and new.

A review of Hornsby in a recent solo concert noted that he played everything from avant-garde classical to boogie-woogie, and that the performing was “richly rewarding.”

Bruce Hornsby will be at the Strathmore Music Hall in North Bethesda on March 6, starting at 8:00 pm. No doubt avid fans will be on the lookout for merchandise and promotional products at the event.
