Developers to share plans for Bethesda project

Developers Bethmont LLC and Bethesda Land LLC are asking permission to redevelop property on Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda.

The upcoming proposal is for 7815 Woodmont Avenue, which is the EagleBank building; and 7820 Wisconsin Avenue, a 7-Eleven. The developers want to build a tower that would be almost 300 feet tall, comprising 390,500 square feet. The building would offer about 300 housing units, and approximately 8,000 square feet would be reserved for retailers.

Barbara Sears is the attorney for the developers, and said all the figures at this time are preliminary. Sears added that under the proposed plan, the developers will offer approximately 25% of the total number of housing units at affordable prices. By law, developers only need market 15% of the total as affordable housing.

Sears said that by providing more units at moderate rates than required by law, the developers could be allowed to build a taller structure. Sears added the developers also want to provide housing for people of all income levels to help increase diversity in the area.

The developers are holding a meeting on December 6, and invite community residents to attend to hear their plans. The meeting is set for 7:00 pm in the cafeteria of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

Organizers of this type of meeting can make it more informative and organized by working with a flyer printing company to create an agenda to distribute at the event.
