What's Happening in Bethesda, MD…

Dance convention and competition coming to Bethesda

A dance company that helps people be their best is coming to Bethesda.

DanceMakers is a dance competition and convention company, but say they are also a movement. Their goal is to provide an atmosphere that promotes love, inspiration, discipline, individuality, self-awareness, and creativity. They help students achieve these goals by teaching dance classes, but they also say they teach what they call life classes. The goal of these lessons is to help young people be the best person they can be. Choreographer Kathryn McCormick said:

“It is not about looking good. It is about making people feel like they are worth looking at.”

DanceMakers wants to be the best dance company possible, not necessarily the biggest, and they have spent more than 40 years supporting young dancers, including encouraging participation in competitions. Organizers of this type of event can use poster printing to create colorful advertising for the occasion.

DanceMakers events are only three days long and do not take the place of the work dancers do in their local studios. Instead, they provide inspiration to help people work harder when they do return home. People who take part in the competitions are judged by professional choreographers, again with the aim of providing feedback to help them continue their careers.

The DanceMakers event is set for March 5 through March 7. Participating studios may bring as many as 50 routines, including 20 solos. The venue is the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.
