Celtic Christmas in Bethesda

A singer and champion fiddler is bringing his unique style to Bethesda in time for the holidays.

Sean Heely’s Celtic Christmas is the work of U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion Sean Heely, who is also an Irish fiddler, harpist, and singer in the Gaelic and folk traditions of Ireland and Scotland. The University of South Carolina granted Heely a degree in Classical Violin Performance, and in 2019, he was Artist in Residence at Strathmore.

He is also an educator, and is an Adjunct Instructor at American University, while serving as a faculty member at summer camps like the Boxwood Music Festival, and the Fiddle Hell Festival. His performing career has taken him to Germany, South America, Ireland, Scotland, and throughout the United States. Heely has been on stage with icons like Maeve Gilchrist, Paddy Keenan and Eamon O’Leary.

In addition to his career in traditional fiddle music, Heely is also a classical violinist. He made his solo debut in 2012 when he performed Mozart’s 5th Violin Concerto with the Virginia Symphony. He has soloed with the Washington Tattoo and the Virginia International Tattoo. A review says:
“Sean has steeped himself in the Gaelic language and music tradition … His performances are equally as enlightening as they are entertaining.”

Sean Heely’s Celtic Christmas will take place on December 8 at 8.00 pm at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda. Organizers of performances like this can use poster printing to create striking advertising for the event.
