Bethesda warms up for classical concert
Local music lovers have a special evening to look forward to.
The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (OCO) will be appearing in North Bethesda, at the Music Center at Strathmore, with special guest Branford Marsalis.
The OCO is extremely unusual, as it first formed in 1972 without a conductor, and has continued without one ever since. Instead, they rotate the leadership for each work performed, which leads to a never-ending variety of interpretations.
The orchestra has recorded more than 70 albums, appearing on all the major classical record labels. It has also toured extensively, visiting more than 46 countries, and has a Grammy Award to its credit. Renée Fleming, Isaac Stern, and Alfred Brendel are among the names Branford Marsalis is joining by having worked with the orchestra.
Marsalis comes from a talented musical family that includes his brothers Wynton (trumpeter), Delfeayo (trombonist), and Jason (jazz drummer). Branford is a jazz saxophonist who leads the Branford Marsalis Quartet, but also frequently performs classical works, often with major orchestras. He was the leader of The Tonight Show Band from 1992 to 1995.
The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Branford Marsalis will be in North Bethesda on January 21, 2021, at 8:00 pm. Poster printing can provide attractive and effective advertising for events like this, with posters sometimes being sold as souvenirs.
