Pizzeria opening in Charles Village

Homeslyce, a pizza bar that serves a boat-shaped signature pizza called a ‘slyce’, as well as more traditional fare, will open in the space once occupied by PJ's Pub in Charles Village.

This location is likely to be the last store the chain will open in Baltimore before it expands into the District of Columbia.

Haluk Kantar, the owner, said the former pub is being completely renovated, with Homeslyce adding outdoor seating as well as windows. Kantar said the Charles Village site was ideal for the pizza shop, since there are other Homeslyce restaurants in other parts of Baltimore, but none in the north end. When Kantar learned that PJ's was closing, it seemed to be the perfect spot.

In addition to its ‘slyces’, Homeslyce serves whole pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and calzones. The menu in the Charles Village space will remain true to the food being offered in the Columbia, Canton, Mount Vernon, and Federal Hill shops.

Kantar expects to open the first Washington, D.C., location in October. It will be near George Washington University, and the first of six to eight shops planned for the nation's capital.

The Baltimore renovations are on track, and Homeslyce expects to be open sometime in December this year as planned.

New businesses like this can do well by working with a flyer printing company to create a handout, including a coupon, to invite people to come in and try the place.
