Pigtown to get new vegan collective

The Pigtown neighborhood of Baltimore will soon be home to a new storefront, where several vegan businesses based in Baltimore plan to sell dairy-free cheese, alternative meats, and other plant-based items.

The enterprise is known as the Greener Kitchen, and is a collective owned by its vegan members. The group already supplies Red Emma’s and other area restaurants, and now will sell directly to the public via a new retail outlet to be located on Washington Boulevard. The space will have a small area for those who wish to eat in, plus a sales counter.

Brenda Sanders, a co-owner of the collective, noted that the group, first known as PEP Foods Inc., has been distributing food and catering in the area since 2013. The new space will help the organization become better known to the city’s residents. Companies like this can use Logo Design to help build brand recognition.

Sanders also said one aim of the collective is to make vegan foods affordable to people in the neighborhood, where there is some food insecurity. The Greener Kitchen plans to sell vegan basics such as dairy-free cheese, dairy-free mayonnaise, and seitan, which is a meat substitute.

The collective gave potential customers a sample of what it will provide when it opens officially, serving waffle sundaes, fries, buffalo ‘chicken’ nuggets, and vegan ‘chicken’, with accompanying waffles to guests recently.

The Greener Kitchen expects to open within a few weeks.
