Baltimore's Inner Harbor has a new restaurant, as Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls is now open for business.
Mason's is on East Pratt Street, and not surprisingly, serves lobster rolls as its signature dish. In fact, its limited menu is mostly variations on lobster rolls, including items such as the Connecticut roll—a lobster roll, only served warm; a lobster salad roll; the “Bar Harbor”, which includes a quarter-pound of lobster; a lobster BLT roll; there's even a lonely shrimp roll on the menu, but the operative word is “lobster” with bisque, lobster mac and cheese, and lobster salad also among the options.
The chain is relatively small, with only seven locations now open – four in Maryland and one each in Delaware, South Carolina, and Virginia. Two more are in the planning stages.
Mason's was founded by Dan Beck, who worked in the restaurant industry as a seafood buyer, making visits to Maine on a regular basis. While there, he got to know many of the lobstermen, and learned to respect their traditions. As a seafood lover himself, Beck decided to make his lobster rolls in the traditional way, using fresh Maine lobster as the main ingredient.
Reviews of the new restaurant thus far have all been raves, and the place is open seven days a week, from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm. New locations like this can distribute promotional Pens to build brand recognition.
