John Waters is noted for his work with the drag queen Divine, who has starred in many of his films, most notably “Hairspray.” This year, he will be celebrating “A John Waters Christmas—It's a Yuletide Massacre.”
Waters started his climb to fame early in the 1970s, creating such cult films as “Female Trouble” and “Pink Flamingos.” In 1988, he directed “Hairspray,” which he also wrote, and which gave him mainstream success. The film was adapted for the stage, opened first in Seattle, and went to Broadway in 2002. The following year, it won eight Tonys, including Best Musical, and ran for a total of 2,642 performances.
His live performance tour is called “This Filthy World,” and often feature his thoughts about the things that influenced his career, including exploitation films and true crime, as well as sexuality and artistic extremism.
His “John Waters Christmas” is not for the squeamish. One review says:
“As always, John Waters' rapid-fire delivery of anecdotes, stories, dirty jokes and twisted life views was hilarious. He is not for the conventional or the faint of heart and that's what makes him special.”
Waters will be at the Baltimore Soundstage of December 17 at 8:00 pm. Brochure printing can provide informative program about performances like this.
