Classic film goes under the spotlight

The 1980s film ‘Dirty Dancing’ has been adapted for the stage, so people who love the story can see it live.

With millions of people enjoying the story of “Baby” Houseman, a privileged girl, and her romance with Johnny Castle, a guy from the wrong part of town, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey are widely remembered for their roles in the movie.

According to an article, the songs, risqué dances, and, of course, the endless attempts they make before they are able to perform the lift, are all part of the stage play. Gillian Abbott, who plays Baby, says the stage production is “very true to the film,” with everything viewers love about the movie included. There are also some scenes that have been added for the theater version, but Abbot expects fans of the film will love the show.

Audiences can also expect to hear some of the dialogue from the movie, since the screenwriter, Eleanor Bergstein, also wrote the play. The show is a play with music that uses a live band, and gives singers the chance to belt out the numbers that have had people dancing since the 1980s.

The play is now open at the Hippodrome in Baltimore, and runs through Sunday, May 24. Theater management could work with a banner printing company to create fun Banners for the lobby that tie the film and play together.
