Baltimore to make room for art

Locals who enjoy art of all kinds have a treat in store, when Artscape comes to Baltimore later this month.

The festival is free to the public, and is the largest event of its kind in the nation, usually attracting more than 350,000 visitors in the course of its three-day run. This is the 33rd Artscape, and this year, the focus is on movement, with disco dancing in Pearstone Park, ‘Dance!’ at The Lyric, and ballroom dancing along Charles Street among the attractions designed to get visitors on their feet.

Dance is only one of the arts at the festival, however, with more than 150 fine artists, crafters, and fashion designers set to be on hand too. There will be exhibits by visual artists, who include sculptors and photographers, as well as performances by a number of musicians working on outdoor stages. A complete menu of performing arts will be offered, including opera, dance, film, theater, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Unlike many similar festivals, Artscape is not held in one place, but in various neighborhoods, including Charles Street and Bolton Hill. The festival takes place July 18 through the 20, opening each day at 11:00 am and runs until 9:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8:00 pm on Sunday.

Festival organizers can increase the fun by working with a banner printing company on flags to hang at the various locations.
