Baltimore to get new Ronald McDonald House

A recent grant in the amount of $5m from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation now puts the total raised by the Ronald McDonald House Charities Baltimore at $27.2 million, so construction can begin on a new facility.

For over three years, the organization has been raising funds to build a new house for families with sick children. Thanks to the latest grant, groundbreaking on the project is expected this spring.

The new house will be on Aisquith Street, which is in Baltimore's Jonestown neighborhood and will replaced the Lexington Street facility. The home will offer 60,000 square feet of space comprising 55 rooms, which will provide accommodation for 2,200 families per year. That is more than twice the number that can currently stay at the extant house. The new home will also have a floor equipped with suites for families of oncology patients. The house will also have a room for teens, an outdoor roof space, a classroom, and an underground garage.

President and CEO of the charity, Sandy Pagnotti, said the Weinberg gift was the final push needed to get the construction started. Pagnotti also hopes that building the Ronald McDonald House there will spur other types of development in the Jonestown area.

The Ronald McDonald House works with a number of area hospitals, including Johns Hopkins.

Facilities like this can benefit if developers work with brochure printers, which can create Booklets that describe the amenities offered by the house.
