Baltimore museum teaches puppet building techniques

Danyett Tucker will hold a puppet-making series at The Sankofa Children's Museum of African Cultures in Baltimore.

Sankofa Figures: Intro to Puppet Building is a collection of events where children can learn how to make how to make different kinds of puppets from an experienced artist. The first session will teach kids how to make animal marionettes that are inspired by the story Calabash Cat and his Amazing Journey. The second course will use African art as inspiration for making human marionettes. The final workshop will show children how to create hand and rod puppets.

The Artist in Residence Introductory Workshop Series will be led by Danyett Tucker, a graduate of Morgan State University who is an experienced puppeteer and doll artist. She uses doll-making techniques and storytelling to promote mental health and inner strength. Tucker was the program director for Art with a Heart, a program that brought art to elementary and middle school students. She also worked as a teaching specialist for Arts for Learning Maryland.

The first session of the puppet building series will be held on June 29th and June 30th, and the second session will be on July 13th and July 14th. The workshops will take place from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The third class will be available from July 29th to August 15th. Organizations that host children's art programs like this may use poster printing to share their activities with students.
