Baltimore mansion to open for tour

At one time, people who wanted to tour a local landmark needed an invitation. For one day early in the new year, all they will need is a ticket.

The Garrett Jacobs Mansion was created by Mary Frick, sometimes called “Baltimore's Mrs. Astor,” who put three large rowhomes together into one mansion with 40 rooms. The project was a showcase of the work of two architects who were prominent at the time – John Russell Pope and Stanford White.

Architecture fans and history buffs will enjoy having an opportunity to tour the structure, on the upcoming Taste & Tour event. A docent will lead a tour of the home, giving attendees a chance to learn the history of the mansion. They will also be able to enjoy a drink of sparkling water, or a signature cocktail, as part of the evening.

Samuel George built the original home in 1853, in Baltimore's Mount Vernon suburb, which was new at the time, for Robert and Mary Garrett. Robert was president of the Valley Rail Road, and later became president of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. The Garretts decided to enlarge and renovate their home to provide a welcoming space for the guests, worthy of an important executive. The result is the historic mansion.

The 2020 Taste & Tour is scheduled for January 7, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Brochure printing can be used to create informative materials for properties like this.
