The property on Calvert Street belonging to the Baltimore Sun, as well as a parking garage it has been leasing, has been sold.
The buyer is Atapco Properties, a real estate management and investment firm based in Baltimore. The buildings are owned by Tribune Media, which is based in Chicago, and the sale had been under discussion for months.
Atapco's president, Kevin McAndrews, said he was excited by the acquisition, noting that both his company and the Sun have a long history in the city of Baltimore. He is looking forward to taking an old building and changing it into something everyone will enjoy.
Atapco's plans for the site are still in development, but the location holds a lot of potential, since it's near downtown, and is surrounded by a number of important buildings such as the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Mercy Medical Center, the Center Stage Theatre, and a number of new residential structures.
The buildings are on North Calvert Street, Numbers 401, 501, and 601, and Atapco plans to renovate them, and could add retail spaces, or perhaps residential spaces or hospitality suites. Additional space could be used as a parking lot. The property occupies 5 ½ acres and offers over 435,000 square feet.
Projects like this can benefit if developers work with a brochure printing company to create an illustrated brochure showing potential tenants the amenities of the property.
