New Bedford offers computer classes for seniors

Three free technology courses are being offered by the city of New Bedford in the coming months. These courses are designed to provide an opportunity for beginners to learn how to use Microsoft Office, get comfortable with the Internet and tablets, and build essential computer skills.

These courses are funded through a grant of $85,000 with the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. The courses being offered by the city include Introduction to Microsoft Office, Basic Basics, and Computer Intermediate. The classes are designed primarily for seniors but anyone who feels they need help with learning basic computer skills is welcome to attend the classes.

The classes will be held once a week on Saturdays. They take place at the Administrative Office of the Council on Aging on Hillman Street over a period of eight weeks. Jared Mello, a technology professional who leads projects for a global government contractor, will be teaching the classes. He attended UMass Lowell where he earned a degree in Information Technology and Business and takes pride in educating and supporting seniors to enable them to be more comfortable with the technology of today.

Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such classes and to promote them throughout a community.

The fall classes will be held from September 27 through November 15; the winter classes from December 6 through January 31, and the spring classes from February 14 through April 4.
