New Bedford welcomes new Mexican eatery

The National Club Mexican Cantina is now open in New Bedford. It is across from State Pier at the corner of JFK Boulevard and Union Street.

Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents and visitors to town of these updated and lively new establishments.

The old National Club previously attracted fishermen and other waterfront workers and was closed over 10 years ago. The space was vacant until Stephen Silverstein and family converted the space into a modern cantina.

The National Club Mexican Cantina is open every day and features elevated and contemporary Mexican cuisine with a combination of traditional favorites with a few clever flavor riffs as well as authentic dishes. There is an expansive selection of tequila, cervezas, and mezcal and a robust cocktail menu that includes regional wines and margaritas. The interior of the space has locally curated art, bold colors, and has a vibrant atmosphere like one would find in an energetic cantina in Mexico City.

Silverman said expressed his excitement of bringing his elevated Mexican restaurant, cultural experience, attentive service, and contemporary vibrant design to his hometown of New Bedford. He said:

“..it is inspiring to be part of the continued transformation of New Bedford.”

Silverman added that his restaurant is equally a place where the community can gather as well as being a destination for spirits, entertainment, and exceptional cuisine.
