Student theater to return to Natick

The Natick Drama Workshop (NDW), a theater program in the area for students in grades five through eight, will be returning with new performances this month.

Coming this month will be “Showtime!” which will be a highlight of previous performances. There will be pieces from shows such as “Do Wop Wed Widing Hood,” “Twinderella,” and “Wild Wild Wildest West.”

The NDW was founded 50 years ago to introduce young people from Natick and the area to community theater and the fun associated with being involved in it. Students audition for shows and between 40 and 60 of them rehearse on Saturday mornings with members of the board, volunteers, professional staff, and alumni. Costumes and props are created and ticket sales promoted by other adults during this time.

The program is made possible by the Natick Parks and Recreation Department and is supported by the Friends of NDW. The Friends assist the professional staff in producing the shows and coordinating the efforts of the volunteers. The NDW also relies on advertisements by local businesses in the playbill to fund its programming, as well as ticket sales. There is also an opportunity for local Print shops to help with the printing of such playbills for the performances.

“Showtime!” will be taking place at the Wilson Middle School for three performances this Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14.
