Natick awarded funding for accessibility provisions

The town of Natick has been awarded a grant of $13,600 from the Massachusetts Office on Disability to improve accessibility in public spaces.

The purchase of accessible picnic tables for a number of areas in the community, including Mary Bunker Park, Sassamon Trace Golf Course, Memorial Beach, and the Cole Recreation Center, will be made possible due to the grant. The grant is part of the state Municipal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Improvement Grant Program.

News of such awards and their benefits for a community is often disseminated with flyer printing.

State representative David P. Linsky expressed his excitement about the town receiving this grant. The grant will make the public amenities in the community more accessible to all those in Natick with disabilities. He added:

“I am grateful to the Massachusetts Office on Disabilities for organizing and distributing the funding for this award and I am looking forward to seeing more of Natick getting out and enjoying its public resources through the positive impact this award will have on the town.”

He added that being awarded this grant recognizes that the town is committed to improving accessibility in public spaces.

The Municipal ADA Improvement Grant Program is a competitive funding opportunity that helps Massachusetts municipalities improve accessibility to public programs, services, and facilities for individuals with disabilities. The program has awarded over $26 million to 224 municipalities in Massachusetts.
