Mixed-use development proposed for Natick

Demolition of an office and retail plaza next to the West Nyack commuter rail station is scheduled to make way for a mixed-use building, which will have 219 residential units.

The development, which is proposed to be called Gables Natick Crossing, will be five stories tall and span 250,000 square feet. It will be on a site of three acres on West Central Street. Gables Residential, based in Atlanta, is the developer, and has built other apartment complexes in Westwood, Watertown, and the Boston seaport.

The first floor will have about 4,000 square feet of retail space as well as a public plaza with landscaping and seating. There will be a total of 258 parking spaces, of which 184 will be in a parking structure, and the remaining spaces will be on the street. Proposed is also a shared use path for pedestrians and cyclists.

At least 10 percent of the 219 units will be designed as affordable housing. Additional amenities will include a courtyard, pool, and fitness center.

Brochure printing can be used to highlight the features and amenities of such projects.

The planning board supported the proposed development, noting that it will benefit the community and the extensive collaboration between the developer and the town to produce a project that aligns with the town’s new zooming regulations.

An initial public hearing on the project was held, with the next scheduled for next Wednesday, May 6.
