Special walk to be held in Natick

Natick will be hosting the MetroWest Out of the Darkness Community Walk to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention this fall.

It will be an in-person event at the Natick Common. There will be another date for those who want to participate virtually. Such events and their options for participation are often made known throughout an area with poster printing.

The walk is a fundraiser to raise money for research on suicide prevention, the goal of which is to raise $25,000 this year. It will also serve as a venue for people to meet with each other to discuss mental health issues.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) said that this walk is held in hundreds of cities across the country and is part of a movement that began in 2004. The AFSP added that such events enable people to talk about their connections to these issues, gather with family members and other acquaintances, and help create a culture that is better informed about public health.

The walk will take place on Sunday, October 17. Check-in and registration will begin at 9:00 am with the walk beginning at 10:00 am and ending at noon. The virtual option will take place on Saturday, November 6 with the Celebration of Hope Day in Massachusetts. This option will begin at 10:00 am.
