Birthday Wishes will be holding its annual CakeWalk this year in Natick as a virtual event.
The goal of the event is to have as many people as possible run or walk a collective total of 6,000 miles by the beginning of June. The number of 6,000 is designed to represent one mile for each homeless child that the organization expects to serve this year. It is hoped that people will look for meaningful ways to direct their energy and time during this period and will want to participate in this event with friends and family.
Print shops can get involved in such events by creating mailers and other printed materials to inform residents of such fundraising efforts.
Birthday Wishes takes the funds raised from such events to hold birthday parties for homeless children. Such parties enable these children to be able to celebrate their birthdays in a joyful environment surrounded by friends, family, and other caring individuals. The birthday parties are run by trained volunteers from the community who want to donate their time and resources to community service for children and their families.
Both academic research and anecdotal evidence show that birthday celebrations help to provide a feeling of normalcy which homeless children do not often experience.
Participants in the event need to run or walk their miles by Sunday June 7.
