The Science and Technology Professional of the Year award for 2022, recognizing Excellence in Leadership of the United States Army, has been given to Natick-based George Matook.
Matook is program manager of the Measuring and Advancing Soldier Tactical Readiness and Effectiveness Program (MASTR-E) at the United States Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Solider Center in Natick.
Under Matook’s leadership, MASTR-E has created the initial capability to predict, measure, and enhance the combat performance of squads and soldiers, maximizing their survivability and lethality by addressing challenges to human performance. This will enable unit leaders to track the status and performance of their soldiers during mission planning, training, and recovery. The award recognized the accomplishments and leadership traits of Matook and applauded how the program has benefitted not only the Army, but the entire Department of Defense.

Assistant Secretary of the Army, Douglas Bush, said that the creation, development, and establishment of a program for human performance within the United States Army is a direct result of the insight into program management and technical expertise of Matook. He added that this program has already provided the important tools needed by leaders and soldiers to positively intervene in both their unit and individual performance, and improve mental and physical health conditions.
